Don “the Mad Hatter” Ebert was selected as the 1980-1981 Rookie of the Year in the Major Indoor Soccer League after leading the St. Louis Steamers with 46 goals and 64 points. Ebert spent most of his career with two indoor teams, the Steamers and the Los Angeles Lazers. A graduate of Rosary High School in St. Louis, Ebert attended Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville where he played from 1977 to 1979, leading the Cougars in scoring all three seasons. He was the first selection in the 1980 North American Soccer League draft and played briefly with New York before he was signed by the Steamers in the MISL.
